Tummy Tuck

You Can Have a Flat, Sexy Abdominal Contour!

Tummy Tuck | Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic Surgery | TorrenceWe all strive for a flat, smooth-looking abdomen, but sometimes, even for individuals who are at or close to their ideal weight, this is simply not possible no matter how diligent we are with abdominal exercise or healthy eating.  Unfortunately, many significant life events such as pregnancy and weight fluctuation, as well as simple genetics and even just the passage of time, can leave the abdominal musculature damaged and the skin stretched out, loose, protruding, or fuller than we would like.  A surgical abdominoplasty, or “tummy tuck”, addresses these problematic areas in order to deliver the firm, toned, shapely abdomen you have not been able to achieve through diet and exercise alone.

If you find yourself struggling with any of the following abdominal concerns, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck:

  • Excess fullness or fat that does not respond to exercise
  • Loose or hanging skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Protruding or bulging contours around the waist

The amount of excess skin and fat in the abdomen will determine which type of tummy tuck would produce the most effective results.  Experienced cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons Dr. James Black (Board Certified) and Dr. Michael Arnstein will customize a plan of care that addresses your specific concerns at their state-of-the-art private practice in the Torrance, CA area.  Our goal is to make sure you are well-informed about your surgical options, feel comfortable through every stage of the process, and are certain that your safety and well-being are our top priority, as well as achieve the taut, shapely abdomen you have been dreaming about!

Your Tummy Tuck Options

Your abdominoplasty procedure will be done under general anesthesia and may or may or may not require an overnight stay.  After your procedure, you will notice drains in the incisions on both sides of the abdomen that help remove excess fluid from the area; these are generally in place for about 5 days.  Although your flat, taut abdomen will be immediately noticeable, most patients require about two weeks to recover, and any post-operative swelling and bruising can take several more weeks to fully subside.

After a thorough medical examination and listening to your aesthetic goals, we will be able to determine which tummy tuck procedure would be best for you.  These are some of the different approaches:

Mini Tummy Tuck

For this procedure, a single incision is made very low in the pubic area.  It is a shorter incision similar to that of a C-section and can be easily hidden under your panty line.  This procedure is ideal for patients who do not have any damage to the musculature and require only limited excision of skin and fat in the lower abdomen.

Full Tummy Tuck

In a full abdominoplasty, all loose, hanging skin and excess fatty deposits located between the belly button and the pubic area are removed and the underlying muscle fascia are repaired and tightened.  This procedure requires an incision in the pubic area running from hipbone to hipbone, along with a small cutout incision around the belly button.  Because much of the excess skin is removed from the lower abdominal area, any stretch marks in this region will also be removed as well.  This procedure is best for patients whose abdomen has been compromised by pregnancy, weight loss, or genetic laxity.

Skin Only Tummy Tuck

This procedure mirrors the full tummy tuck but does not require the muscle tightening component.  This procedure is suited for patients where the main concern is excess skin laxity in the abdominal area.

Extended Tummy Tuck

If you have excess skin and fat extending into your hip area, your incision can be made slightly longer to properly address this.  This procedure will also remove the excess skin and fat from the belly button down while transferring the lift over the hip and extending it to the thigh and repairing the muscle.
